How do I turn off Apple CarPlay®* with SYNC®**?

You can disable Apple CarPlay in the Settings menu of your SYNC system. 

Deactivating Apple CarPlay

Important: Ensure that your vehicle is on and running in a well-ventilated area, and it is in Park (P).

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to turn off Apple CarPlay.

Notes: 

  • If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option. 
  • Apple CarPlay may need to be disabled to use some FordPass®† App functions.
  • Actual screens may vary. See your Owner’s Manual for information specific to your vehicle.

Identifying Your Vehicle's SYNC Generation

Two resources to help you identify your vehicle's SYNC generation are the:

SYNC 4A

 To disable Apple CarPlay with SYNC 4A:

  1. Tap Settings or the Home icon (varies by software version) on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Choose Phone List.
  4. Press Disable Apple CarPlay.

Apple CarPlay will be disabled and normal SYNC functionality will resume.

SYNC 4

To disable Apple CarPlay with SYNC 4:

  1. Tap Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen. 
  2. Select Phone List.
  3. Choose your phone from the list of devices.
  4. Press Disable

Apple CarPlay will be disabled and normal SYNC functionality will resume.

SYNC 3

To disable Apple CarPlay with SYNC 3:

  1. Select Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Swipe and press Apple CarPlay Preferences.
  3. Choose your phone from the list of devices.
  4. Tap the drop-down arrow and press Disable to disconnect.

Apple CarPlay will be disabled and normal SYNC functionality will resume.
