How do I use Valet Mode with SYNC®*?
Valet Mode prevents others who have access to your vehicle from accessing your SYNC system by locking it with a 4-digit personal identification number (PIN). Use the instructions contained in this article to activate Valet Mode.
Enabling Valet Mode
Important: Ensure that your vehicle is on and running in a well-ventilated area, and it is in Park (P).
Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to turn on Valet Mode. If your SYNC generation is not listed, it is not equipped with Valet Mode.
Notes:
- If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option.
- Actual screens and instructions may vary. See your Owner’s Manual for information specific to your vehicle.
Identifying Your Vehicle's SYNC Generation
Two resources to help you identify your vehicle's SYNC generation are the:
- SYNC and Navigation Updates page. Either:
- Enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and select Check for update.
Log in with your Ford credentials, choose a vehicle from your garage, and select Check for updates.
Note: Your SYNC generation will appear on the right-hand side of the page.

SYNC 4A
To set Valet Mode with SYNC 4A:
- Tap either the Home icon or Settings (based on your SYNC 4A software version) on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Select Controls.
- Press Valet Mode.
- Create a 4-digit PIN.
- Tap Done.
The system is now locked until the correct PIN is entered.
SYNC 4
To set Valet Mode with SYNC 4:
- Press Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Tap Valet Mode.
- Select Yes when prompted by the pop-up.
- Create a 4-digit PIN
- Press Done.
The system is now locked until the correct PIN is entered.
SYNC 3
To set Valet Mode with SYNC 3:
- Press Settings on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Tap Valet Mode. A message will ask you to enter a PIN.
- Select Yes to continue.
- Enter a 4-digit PIN of your choice.
- Press Done.
- Re-enter the PIN to complete the process.
The system is now locked until the correct PIN is entered.
SYNCwith MyFord Touch®
To set Valet Mode with SYNC with MyFord Touch:
- Press Menu (gear icon) on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
- Tap Vehicle.
- Select Enable Valet Mode. A message will ask you to enter a PIN.
- Press Yes to continue.
- Enter a 4-digit PIN of your choice.
- Tap Enter.
- Re-enter the PIN to complete the process.
The system is now locked until the correct PIN is entered.
SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation
To set Valet Mode with SYNC with Voice-Activated Navigation:
- Press the MENU hard button.
- Select the Valet Mode tab on the touchscreen.
- Tap Enable Valet Mode.
- Enter a 4-digit PIN of your choice.
- Press Enter. The system will ask you to re-enter the PIN.
- Re-enter your PIN.
- Select Enable to activate Valet Mode.
The system is now locked until the correct PIN is entered.
*Do not drive while distracted or while using handheld devices. Use voice-operated systems when possible. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
