How do I unpair my phone from SYNC®*?

You can remove a paired phone (or other paired Bluetooth®** devices) from your SYNC system using your vehicle's screen and the instructions provided in this article.

Deleting a Paired Phone

Important: Ensure that your vehicle is on and running in a well-ventilated area, and it is in Park (P).

Select your SYNC generation from the drop-down options below to learn how to unpair your phone from SYNC. 

Notes: 

  • If you need assistance determining the generation of your SYNC system, select the first drop-down option.
  • Actual screens may vary. See your Owner’s Manual for information specific to your vehicle.

Identifying Your Vehicle's SYNC Generation

Two resources to help you identify your vehicle's SYNC generation are the:

SYNC 4A

To delete a paired phone from SYNC 4A:

  1. Tap Settings or the Home icon (varies by software version) on your vehicle's SYNC screen.
  2. Press Settings.
  3. Choose Phone List.
  4. Select the phone you would like to delete.
  5. Tap <Phone> Settings.
  6. Press Remove <Phone>.

To delete a paired phone from SYNC 4:

  1. Press the Phone tab on your vehicle's SYNC screen. 
  2. Select Phone List
  3. Choose a phone from the list. 
  4. Tap the Delete symbol (trash can). A pop-up will appear.
  5. Confirm Yes to remove the phone.

SYNC 3

To delete a paired phone from SYNC 3:

  1. Press Settings.
  2. Tap Bluetooth.
  3. Choose View Devices.
  4. Select the phone you want to delete.
  5. Press Delete.
  6. Confirm Yes to remove the phone.

SYNC with MyFord Touch®

To delete a paired phone from SYNC with MyFord Touch:

  1. Press the Gear icon at the bottom of your SYNC screen.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Tap Phone.
  4. Press Bluetooth.
  5. Choose the phone you want to delete.
  6. Tap Delete.

SYNC Gen 1.1

To delete a paired phone from SYNC Gen 1.1:

  1. Select Phone.
  2. Go to Bluetooth Devices.
  3. Select the phone you want to delete.
  4. Press Delete.

SYNC Gen 1

To delete a paired phone from SYNC Gen 1:

  1. Press the Phone button.
  2. Select Return.
  3. Press Bluetooth.
  4. Choose the phone you want to delete.
  5. Press Delete.

What do I do if my phone is not pairing?


*Do not drive while distracted or while using handheld devices. Use voice-operated systems when possible. Some features may be locked out while the vehicle is in gear. Not all features are compatible with all phones.
