What is the Ford Rear Occupant Alert System?

The Rear Occupant Alert System* is a safety feature that alerts the driver to check the back seat of the vehicle for occupants after the ignition is turned off.

Using the Rear Occupant Alert System

Four-Door Vehicles

To trigger the Rear Occupant Alert System in a vehicle with four doors, perform these steps within 15 minutes before starting your vehicle.

  1. Open the rear door of the vehicle.
  2. Buckle the rear seat belt.

    Note: If the vehicle's Child Seat Installed option is enabled, the rear seat belt buckling step is not needed. For additional information, refer to How do I enable or disable the Rear Occupant Alert System?

  3. Close the rear door.
  4. Turn the vehicle ignition on.

Two-Door Vehicles

To trigger the Rear Occupant Alert System in a vehicle with two doors, perform these steps within 15 minutes before starting your vehicle.

  1. Open the driver's side door.
  2. Buckle the rear seat belt.

    Note: If the vehicle's Child Seat Installed option is enabled, the rear seat belt buckling step is not needed. For additional information, refer to How do I enable or disable the Rear Occupant Alert System?

  3. Close the driver's side door.
  4. Turn the vehicle ignition on.
