How does the Power Liftgate or Hands-Free Liftgate work in my Ford?
Your vehicle may be equipped with a power liftgate button or a hands-free liftgate sensor to open or close the trunk. To learn more and view a demonstration of how each liftgate works, refer to the videos below.

Using Your Power Liftgate
Select the liftgate your vehicle is equipped with from the drop-down options below to learn more about its operation.
Standard Power Liftgate
The standard power liftgate works by pressing the button on your liftgate or your keyfob.

Hands-Free Liftgate
The Hands-Free Liftgate works without using your hands or pressing any buttons.
- To open your liftgate, move your leg back and forth under the centre of the rear number below your license plate. Then step back to give the gate space to open.
- To close your liftgate, you can move your leg under the bumper again, or you can either push the liftgate close button located on the bottom of the liftgate or use the liftgate button on your key fob.
Note: If your vehicle is equipped with a trailer tow package, move your leg under the bumper to the left or right of the tow hitch to open or close the liftgate.
