What maintenance is needed for my Electric Ford vehicle?
Electric vehicles (EVs) require specific care that differs from non-electric vehicles, review your vehicle's maintenance schedule or refer to the list below to learn about our maintenance recommendations.
EV Specific Care
- Precondition your vehicle while it is plugged in to optimize your comfort and your vehicle’s performance.
- Keep your battery charged and healthy.
Note: To determine which battery you have and learn more about our charging recommendations refer to the How do I maintain my Electric Vehicle battery? article.
- Avoid charging to 100% except when maximum range is needed for longer trips.
- Set a 90% charge level for daily use for Nickel Cobalt Manganese (NCM) batteries.
- Set a 100% charge level at least once per month for Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries.
- Set your battery to a minimum 50% charge even when not in use.
- Check your 12-volt (V) battery regularly. In an electric vehicle, the 12V battery powers many of the internal systems of your vehicle and is also instrumental in completing software updates. Check connections for corrosion and monitor charge levels to help keep your vehicle running smoothly.
- Start and move your vehicle at least once every 15 days to help maintain lubrication and help prevent corrosion.
- Rotate tires every 12 months/16,000 kilometres to help maintain even tread wear.
- Use our long-term and short-term storage tips.
General Vehicle Care
- Complete software updates.
- Visit your Ford Dealer for an annual multi-point inspection.
- Replace brake fluid, transmission fluid, and coolant following your maintenance schedule.
Note: Electric motors require less frequent fluid changes than gas-powered engines due to using a single gear.
- Check washer fluid level and wipers year-round.
- Confirm all interior and exterior lights are working.
- Check your tires (including your spare) for wear and pressure.
Regular maintenance checks can optimize vehicle performance. Find a complete list of maintenance needs in your Owner’s Manual and schedule service at your Ford Dealer.
